Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

What do you hate the most about working at Macy's?

For me, it's the lousy pay for the amount of work we do.

Were you hoping to get paid for doing nothing? Of course you have to work to be paid! Get a grip.

Managers that won’t help you wait on customers or solve issues in furniture, fine jewelry and cosmetics because they say they don’t know anything about the products and/or the related services.

Macy’s needs to do a survey and just ask questions about their store leaders. Fifty percent of the store leaders should be replaced with competent management.
Macy’s would be in for a rude awakening at how bad their store leaders really are.

The store managers that don’t want to hear about associates who are aggressive and greedy for sales and how they unethically open credit lines.

why would you be greedy and aggressive for sales when they took away commission? you make no sense.. explain how you "unethically open credit lines." takes two to tangle there bud. customers sign up for a reason to get a discount no different then the lies the store manager tells and AP backs up.... so why don't you put down your iphone on your T-Mobile account that you play that sports games on all day and do some work ! ha ha ha 64

I agree with the last post. The layoff process in June 2020 was confusing and shocking because some of the people that got laid off should not have been and vice versa.

I was one of the best resource in my team. I got laid off in covid to save other people jobs. I learned a lessen to be selfish. Some managers called VPs to get back into jobs.

Lack of leadership and the revolving door of management. The colleagues aren't learning the way they're supposed to because of the constant influx of new department managers who aren't or won't learn first themselves.

The store manager who doesn’t take the time to get to know the people working for her. She overloads the people she does know with a bunch of tasks while others roam around freely. She won’t walk around on the sales floor and when she does it’s to call things out. Hardly any positivity with her, all negative.

Store Manager of Menlo Park. She is in over her head. She doesn’t put people to work. She lets the workers work and her friends skate by on the workers heels. She has no regard for true dedication and cares only about herself and how she is perceived. Needs to be replaced.

Right now its all this generalist nonsense. Before the pandemic I was in merchandising but when needed I did fulfillment, signing/markdowns and fitting room. If generalist meant that becomes part of my normal job, no issues at all. But now at a moments notice they can send me to receiving to unload an entire truck by myself with 1 or 2 other people processing. Logically someone who already works in receiving should be on the truck while I go on the line to help process. Theyre the ones used to it and the ones actually dressed for the work. Im seriously considering quitting at this point.

Unrealistic expectations set by leaders who haven't worked at store level since prior to the pandemic. We continue to add tasks and programs for stores when we have over a hundred thousand unfilled hours a week. We can't even get people to show up and yet we are forced to be on so many calls so leaders can complain about what we aren't doing. Most of us are busy running the store, helping customers, doing overrides, giving refunds to people over 90 days so they don't ki-l us on our survey results.

Why not schedule compliance training, check-ins, pulse surveys, ISM rollout, interim inventory, regional visits, all during the heaviest PTO time of the year. So many managers are resigning because the job is simply impossible to do well.

New managers learning how to do their job by shadowing employees who aren’t managers. Also, the unfair scheduling. Some employees do not have to close because they have a special reason. And when you find out what this reason is, you shouldn’t have to close either.

I don’t know what retail world you are living in but you must be drunk on the Macy’s Kool-Aid. Favoritism is the biggest culprit of discontent at Macy’s.
Other retailers do not show the favoritism that Macy’s does. I use to work at BBB and let me tell you it is not a problem there. I made the mistake of coming to Macy’s four months ago and have already begun to look for a new job. Not only is favoritism an issue but management lies to you to get you to work here.
My advise it run away as fast as you can from any job offer Macys may give you. Trust me you will live to regret it.

Unfair and horrible management. Favoritism. Some people doing all the work while others on the register doing nothing all day. The hard working people get nothing but more work their way and lazy and incompetent people get promoted based on favoritism and kissing b-ms.

These so called "complaints" are common in the retail world, and most other companies for that matter. If you don't like Macy's, why are you all staying? Find another job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lack of communication and favoritism for sure. It does exist I have experienced it. Communication seems to be an issue with several companies nowadays. Lack of leadership and overall caring. Much different than the place I worked for years ago where most of the people actually gave a damn.

Favoritism. The fact that management the puts more work on the people who actually work. But they allow some people to get away with doing very little.
