Thread regarding Amazon.com layoffs

Amazon still using stack ranking and forcing people out of the company....

I've heard from a very reliable source that internal to Amazon they are still stack ranking employees; despite an article from a couple of years ago where they publicly said that they were no longer doing this. Everyone in the company is judged as either TT (top tier), HV (High value) or LE (Least effective). If you are graded as an LE; you'll be forced into a plan which likely ends with your departure from the company.

Not only that; management sets quotas for the number of folks that they need to be LE; essentially driving out 5-10% of the company; potentially creating a toxic work culture. Some groups know this and others do not; but it sounds like this is happening across the board. "Buyer Beware" to folks applying there; you may want to take this into consideration before stepping into such an environment.

Despite the stack ranking madness, the stock offerings at Amazon are the biggest detriment- they will use soaring stock prices against your requests to provide any salary increases in your year 3-4, citing that your take home has increased 50% because the stock price is so high.

I won't recommend joining this company if you want mental peace and family time. For few extra bucks you will loose your real life.

The very worst place to work; under backstabbing, narcissistic, despotic managers who are supported wholeheartedly by craven HR Business Partners. I would not recommend this place to any but the most supplicant masochists who return home at night only to rub salt into their wounds.

Yes. its true there is a quota. That target for end of 2019 is to push out 6% of people, this is internally called "unregretted attrition". People resigning and quitting on their own don't count against this number.

Yeah I would not want to work there. I have interviewed there twice in the past and both times it was a very negative experience and atmosphere felt rushed, high pressure and unhappy managers and coworkers there. I also interviewed in two different business units for different jobs. So it did not see a good place to work no matter how much money or stock they promise you.
