I suspect you're about right. Obama is going to do exactly JACK. And, after listening to the news, today, it sounds as though Turkey is to blame for the shoot down of the Russian Sukhoi fighter. Vlad will, undoubtedly, extract some kind of revenge. No love lost between Turkey and Russia, anyway, as the U.S./Saudi natural gas pipeline was supposed to come up through Syria, pass into Turkey, and on to Europe. The Russians and Iran have changed all that. THEY will, instead, build a pipeline to take IRANIAN nat gas through Syria, and then, through an under-sea pipeline, to Europe, completely bypassing Turkey. But,... more to the point,... your comment regarding Putin's M.E. base is, most likely, the real driving force, here,... with THAT, Russia and Iran will effectively gain control over all but Saudi Arabia. And, THAT may not be far off, either, depending upon how quickly things move along (a new POTUS, a Conservative one, would likely support the Saudis, but until then),... it may be Game ON. We, of course, have nothing to fear, as Gay Barry has assured, because HE's going to attend a Climate Change meeting "with all those other nations" and, by golly, THAT will show the terrorists! (Just makes me wanna puke.)

ISIS threatens crude prices only to the extent that they sell crude on the black market at a discount. The ones who want higher prices and are most likely to resort to choking off supply are Iran and Russia. In fact, both would relish shutting in some, or a lot of, Saudi production. But,... the small details, ie., "how" it's likely to happen, "who" is likely to cause it, are secondary. The point is,... the area's become a caldron of confusion and fighting, so, it's just a matter of time.
