Thread regarding West Corp. layoffs

Anyone have regrets?

Is there anyone who has left the company on their own that is happy with their decision? I want to leave but I’m honestly afraid to take the leap. I’m still young enough that I feel I can gain more needed experience working here but at the same time it’s such a toxic environment that I’m not sure how much more I can take.

Best decision ever to leave. Got a better paying job and an upgrade in benefits.

Your health is everything and anything that compromises it needs to go.

Early in the 20th century as a result of the industrial revolution and it's abuses, we developed labor protections about folks physical safety. We now need mental/emotional health protections from these needlessly yet intentionally pressurized corporate environments that shorten our lives and significantly decrease their quality. All because of short sighted business management practices, aka: pennies on a spreadsheet for shareholders. We are no longer human, we are 'human capital'- things to be used and discarded. That is Intrado's value system distilled to it's essence. If you value your humanity, get out- there are places that will see you as more than a disposable commodity and allow you to have your mental health.

My only regret is not leaving sooner. I didn’t realize how toxic Intrado had become until I left. I knew it was bad when I was there, but now I wonder why I put up with it for so long. You have skills and can go elsewhere. It was hard for me to see that until I was hired by another company. I had been with Intrado for so long, I thought it was all I knew. You can do this, take a chance and take the leap. You will be happier and healthier. You deserve better.

I left a year and a half ago after suffering abuse under the management of Lisa Costa. The whole original team quit in less than a year. She ultimately was forced to resign for low job performance. Do you think Rick King reached out to anyone to find out why we were leaving? Absolutely not!

I don’t regret being laid off in December; actually it was a “door that needed to be closed” moment for me. I had two work from home jobs after that, and looking forward to another career change.

Toxic is the key word & it’s an understatement but I feel the same so you’re not alone. Everyone that I know has left has not regretted there decision. If Covid taught us anything it’s that life is fragile & essential workers are not hero’s, we’ve sadly got taken advantage of. The moral has changed & upper management is here for one thing (money) & once you realize that everything else will fall into place.

I left left a few years ago after being offered additional money, promotion, etc. (for the second time) to stay. This, along with many lovely people made it a tough but ultimately correct decision. From what I've seen and heard recently the growth-by-cost reduction plan has been painful and has not resulted in revenue growth. The pricing of the "core" business of conferencing has fallen off a cliff, and according to a bond rating company other revenue growth is non-existent. I don't say this to make anyone feel even less secure about the company, it's a reality that senior management should be open and honest about.

I was laid off but happy I was. West was horrible at adopting to change and heavily constrained where change even came from. Was too conservative for its own good and now they’re finally trying to be relevant but it’s far too late. There are a lot of modern, easy, cheap products gaining traction that will completely take Intrado out of the market, get out before it gets worse.

I left back in late 2018. I felt like a weight had been lifted from my shoulders, and after being other places I realized just how dysfunctional West/Intrado was. Being treated like an adult and having my opinion valued rather than treated like an incompetent child did wonders for my self esteem. West/Intrado kept me in a mental prison, and left no room for advancement or improvement. The aging platforms and red tape made me feel like I had no control over anything and made me feel like there was no hope. I'm in a much better place now, I would recommend leaving to anyone.

I left late last year, and I'm happy I made the jump. I was lucky to find a good company that is growing and is a good fit for me.

If you want to leave and think Intrado is toxic then you should start looking. There will be experience to gain at a new employer. There's always a risk changing jobs, but if you're not happy I wouldn't wait around expecting Intrado to change.

Life is short and we spend most of it at work. We all deserve decent, non-hostile environments to exist in. My word of advice is to start putting feelers out, pursue some targeted education to expand your skill set that might help you transfer to another role outside the company. No place is perfect, but it’s reasonable to expect healthy and balanced conditions in your working environment. Good luck!
