regardless of record earnings (again) in 2023 for UnitedHealth Goup, the budgeted dollar amount for salary increases and bonuses have been cut almost in half compared to what was given last year. Some divisional leaders are continuing to be heard bragging on their town halls about how full year sales for 2023 were at record highs. They are not being fully honest. If you must stay with UHG/Optum for 2024, make it a year to find a job with a higher paygrade to get a salary increase or go out to find a job with a new healthcare company where most times you would make more. There are some great people in UHG/Optum, but very high senior leaders are not always among them and they are simply itching for turnover. They will use more than just layoffs to reduce resources.

What kind of raises and bonuses did upper management receive?
@1rvjb+1qCl3ncH I agree. The budget talks for 2025 are in the sh----r. I doubt there will be raises or bonuses next year, and there will be a significant increase in offshoring.
LOL if you thought 2024 was bad just wait for 2025. I have never seen it this bad to start a year for both the company and employees. They want you to be thankful you have a job by the time merit talk starts again. It will not matter one bit what you do this year within your job.
I've been in the company for 9 years. Last year was the first and only year I got a .27 cent increase. What about the cost of living now? Why do I have to choose between paying bills and putting food on my table? There is no loyalty in this company. Everyone is miserable but I stay because of my health insurance that I desperately need because of medical issues yet I can't even afford to pay my visits anymore.
We're basically NPC's at this point if we're going to put up with this. Anyone with talent should be dusting off the resume and leaving for greener pastures. This company needs to be put in its place via unionizing.
I have been with Optum for 11 years and the 1.75% raise and pissy 600$ bonus is a slap in the face. They expect you to work like slaves and get nothing in return. Interqual got hacked last week too bad the Chinese don’t take the whole system down! Time to look for another job…..
Well said, you sound like you're describing my situation exactly!
Yes! To be told I am a the top performer in on my team, but that they were not allowed to give anyone “5” ratings this year is completely demoralizing. I’ve been there 10 years, rarely ever get more than a 1.25% per year raise, and this year my “merit bonus” was 800 dollars, which they tax at 50% so like 400? So with inflation, every year I work there I make less! I love my team and my boss, and that is the only reason I have stayed this long. But this year, I’m not sure I can stay and remain positive and upbeat. It is just completely defeating. To work so hard and for it to really not matter. I could slack off and not volunteer to do anything extra ever, and still get exactly the same thing. But that’s not me.
I'm going to slash my hours, to match my pay.
This is the grossest company I have ever worked for. Your only option moving up with this company is selling your soul. Exceptional work is not compensated or even recognized in a lot of scenarios. In our meetings, we never discuss patient feedback or how to make things run more cohesively. We talk about obsurd collection goals. It will never be enough money and that is all that it is about. Considering we are patient access, you would think we would talk about how to provide better patient satisfaction but that is not even a priority with this company. I'm embarrassed to work for this company and the people allowing us to be severely underpaid should be embarrassed as well but they are more than likely sociopaths so it is not possible for them to have feelings.
confirming pay grade 29. Bonus cut 50% and no raise. Agree raises were never stellar in the 7 years I've been with UHG, but at least the bonuses helped. Until now. It's the lying that bothers me the most. They raved all year and at shareholder's meetings about how great we're doing. Now they've slashed our pay and won't come clean about why.
Company su-ks. They've never had good raises. Only way to get more money is promotion. But constant reorgs and excuses prevent anyone from advancing. Leave the company and see the money and respect go up
I can confirm. I’m GL 29. No salary increase. Meager bonus.
Witty making employees shoulder the burden by lack of merit/RRP (negative raises after accounting for inflation year over year over year) to make company earnings look better. Hoping Hemsley gives him the hook soon. Stock has been trading sideways for over 2 years now, can't imagine Hemsley will put up with that for much longer.
Fact...Witless continues to have town halls with a good old Boys club brain about how many billions the company made, one week before (again) handing out 1 percent raises and pitiful bonuses.
There is no reward for high performance at most levels.
No merit increase this year and a 3 digit raise
Insane
I am literally horrified. Our department was recent acquired by Optum/UHG and we are NOT used to be treated this way. You must have a license to complete our work and job training takes over a full year. I am not worried about being laid off, but I am worried about my upcoming bonus. Many of these posts are from 2 months ago. We were just told not to expect full bonuses this week. I believe this information was deliberately held from us as we are currently wrapping up our year-end content release, and this news would have been demoralizing. I am ashamed to work for this company and wish we were NEVER acquired. I am beside myself.
The worst slap in the face from any company I have ever worked for. Shame on me for believe their marketing approach to hire me
LS team being told merit 1-2% and RRP funded at around 50% My friend who left a few years ago as a GL 30 is almost making 100k more than me.
Budget cut? How about cutting off those not contributing at all!! The ones hanging up from HR with tons of excuses.
Management does not know who performs these days. That lazy one won’t get any recommendations once laid off.
Our department had horrible survey results but our VP said we need to readjust our expectations that this is what business is like today. Absolute no care about employees or the results, pretty much leave we don’t care.
Man, they worked me hard in year one. This is a gut punch. They DO NOT care about you. Time to dust off the resume.
I’m not knowledgeable enough on this topic but can we unionize? Who can we reach out to to have a union?
Walmart gets a union; why can’t we have one? https://www.nlrb.gov/about-nlrb/rights-we-protect/the-law/employees/your-right-to-form-a-union
We could start a union .
My condolences. Management won't even comment. #Integrity
All of the Radiology department at the Optum offices in Colorado Springs was given notice on Thursday that they wilI no longer provide services. Easily 50-60 people are now out of a job, and there last day will be 2/15. No remorse from upper management.
Love that they can raise the salary bands but not our own pay. I'm dusting off my resume, this company is quickly becoming one of the worst ones i've worked for under Sir Andrew S****y
Completely agreed. Been in my role for a year and busted my butt for that bonus and raise; I’m now looking for a new job.
Why some people are getting laid off and others are getting re-located to other teams?
You may keep your job Only if you know someone higher up. Is a fact!!
Big changes continue as IT is centralizing all of its services and infrastructure under one group and locking it down. They are getting it ready to be outsourced as a whole unit. The four foot tall Napoleon CTO is running all of it. I advise you to find another job if you are anywhere near these roles. As for me, I quiet quit months ago and nobody has noticed so I made my own bonus with getting paid to do nothing. Who cares, right?
Any 30 and above are not getting bonus nor the salary increase…. This is ridiculous and insane, specially after working hard and contributed to the 2023 record revenues. How can they not pay for the work already done unless someone has a bad rating
Non-IT. Merit guide in ComPlanner for GL26’s with MAP 3’s was 0 % - 1 %. Got into a “spirited conversation” with my supervisor to override to 2 % and thats even pathetic….
Trash that managers have to get on their hands and knees and beg to even get give bad news vs horrible news while we wait to be disappointed too.
Humana just got crushed today on higher medical costs. I wouldn't expect anything to get much better in terms or layoffs and salary cost cutting etc.
looks like bonus is less that 7% assuming you received a 4 rating or higher for the year. if you received a 3..maybe bonus is 4%? crazy given our profits.
merit is also abysmal, you'll be lucky to get a 3% increase, more likely 1-2%
They look at outsourcing every other year, they've done that ever since they insourced back in the 2005/06 time frame. But this time they're actually bringing in Kyndryl to give a bid on all of Optum IT. They've never done that before, The new Leadership from Sandeep on down (and up) was brought in specifically to do this. And based on what's going on I'd say that'll be the start of 2025.
Why are you all talking about Outsourcing like it is something new? Isn’t that what brought about the layoffs and the redeployments over the past 2-3 years? And I’m told that some of the outsourcing is not going as well as planned. Meaning the outsourced groups aren’t catching on as well as they thought they would. Does this mean they will bring the clients back onshore before more clients terminate their contracts because of this? Several clients have already terminated their contracts. That’s another reason why there have been layoffs and redeployments.
What week will increases be given out?
You got an extra day off with the new floating holiday. What more can you ask for?
