Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Dear Ginni

Dear Ginni – I’d like to thank you for that wonderful GDP payment of almost $1100. While I really struggled and worked extra hard to achieve that PBC 1 I can tell you that all my troubles went away once I saw that sweet payment. I am going to go see a movie with my family, we’ll eat a dinner and I need to buy some cleats for my daughter, once I am done almost all will be spent.

I’d like to improve next year and I wanted to see what I have to do to increase my bonus 27% next year

just like you did. I mean, I’d like to work much less, f--- up a few projects, lose a few clients, and still make more money. Also, how do I get into that million dollar range Virginia?

I am looking forward to receiving a prompt reply from you…

PBC is a management tool to fool employees to work more without paying them more.

No, BPC stands for Personal Business Commitment

PBC stands for Performance Bell Curve - so, you should expect that 20% will be at the lower end of the curve. That's how humans distribute.

@GsFWDFA-4kng you seem to be pissed - you should start looking for a job that has transitioned to to the XXI century

Also, #PBC is a yearly review and managers have, let’s say 20% targets to give their direct reports a PBC 3 so they can put you on a #PIP. So after PIPing you for about 90 days, they will let you go. So, you can assemble a team of superstars, let’s say 10 of them, each of them with amazing skills, etc. Yet, at the end of the process, two of them will be PIP-ed with PBC 3. A great concept that sucks sh--.

Technical staff at IBM are treated like dog food, 1000% #disposable at any point in time… It’s all about sales guys and whoever sells is golden, nobody cares about your tech skills…

Last year PBC 1 = 6000 USD

This year PBC 2+ = 800 USD

PBC = is not the method by which IBM should tell their employees how important they are and how thankful IBM Management is for their hard work. Because they just cannot use PBC to reflect that (driven from profit rather than quality of work done by employees). Thus, they need to come up with something else in my opinion.

Dear IBMer,

I am rather surprised at your disappointment in your one-time (GDP) payout. There are quite a lot of soon to be ex-IBMers that would love to have received what you did. However, I too was also disappointed in my compensation package for 2015. But as the Board of Directors pointed out to me, GDP stands for Growth Driven Profit. In 2015, as you know we did not grow the business and our compensation reflects that fact. Can you imagine what my compensation would have been If we could actually delivered meaningful results !

I am actually flatter that you want to be more like me in terms of compensation. Let me assure you that I have worked hard to get to where I am. Do you know how many people I have had to BLOW--past in order to get to where I am? Many. And I have had to pray a lot. I have actually gotten down on my KNEES, in the presence of my boss to receive devine guidance when I wasn't sure of my next course of action. Believe me there is no greater power than the power of prayer. I am here to testify that it works.

But enough about me. Your question is how can you get more in the coming year. As you know, this is a zero sum game. If I pay you more then less is available for me, and I am not going to accept less. So here is what I suggest:

(1) You should share your concerns directly with your First Line Manager (not me). He will ensure that you receive a one-time payment equivalent to 1 months pay. On a percentage bases that is 8.33% (1/12).

(2) After you have shared your concerns with your FLM, he/she will give you some time, (about 90 days) to consider you career options. During this time, work on your resume. Start connecting with friends and colleagues on social media to explore how other companies reward their top performers.

(3), Last but not least, on the 91st day after sharing your concerns through the appropriate channels, (a) clean out desk, (b) mail you laptop to to your FLM (postage paid) and (c) Get the F--K out and don't look back !

I hope this was helpful.

Sincerely,

Virginia Rometty
