Thread regarding Alphabet Inc. (Google) layoffs

With the way things are going...

I don't feel like joining the company.

All applicants will opt for Google's competitors instead.

AWS is much more diversified than Google. Google is just ad sales. You need to look at this over the long term, not just this year of adjusting for over hiring during covid.

FAANG is over. Microsoft and Apple are the ones now, look at the stock market. I would hope you all are realizing that there are other companies out there in the world, if you want to hold onto the past and just work for FAANG then you are out of touch. Saying you want to work for Google in 2023 is like saying you want to work for Yahoo or AOL in 2009.

It's the trash economy and extremely poor planning by executives. These same FAANG companies that continued to hire and grow last summer suddenly went in reverse and screwed over many new employees. It's going to be worse than 2008 and with inflation and high interest rates companies are only going to grow if it means outsourcing.

I refer (or did before corporate pulled its head out of its a-s) to google as "Pacific Playland" (kudos if you got the reference) based on my brief scouting trips and walk-abouts on the google campus. Why would ANY serious person want to work there?

Google's competitors are doing the same thing though.
