Thread regarding Thomson Reuters layoffs

Take it for what is is worth

TR is a job, nothing more nothing less. It really doesn't matter what you do, how well or poorly you do it or if you work more than 35 or so hours a week. None of that matters, they will discard you if they need you, whether you worked 100 hrs a week or 20, whether you were consistently exceeding your goals or underachieving, it just doesn't matter.
Take it for what it is worth, a job with a paycheck that has pretty good benefits, but never keep your eye out for a better opportunity. Loyalty goes both ways and sadly they don't care whatsoever if you leave or stay, that is the sad truth. So if it suits you, stay and collect your paycheck and do not put more than 40 hrs a week in, enjoy your families and quality of life, but don't get complacent. Always be aware that there is a strong chance it will end, not by your doing, so take control of your success.

We all know TR is not mommy or daddy but we all expect give and take and make our time worthwhile when we are doing something because we are not day labor . All this comes from place of disappointment from wasting time at a place where you find out that no matter what you do it does not matter. I agree to zoom out and look at where you are and take action, unless you have been at the place for a very long time severance is not worth the wait. Don’t waste time

Let's assume some part of the company is awarding options to top performers.
Meanwhile, in other parts, the most that managers are allowed to give top performers is a virtual pat on the back and a quiet "just be glad you still have a job."
It's evident that the board wishes some parts of the company would hurry up and die, no matter how profitable.
And even so, that's not what bugs me; it's the constant lying about it.

Who in the world is getting equity grants?

Exactly this post. In the states, most are at-will, and TR frankly isn’t behaving any differently than most orgs. I learned this lesson very early in my career. Stay current, have a strong network, never be complacent. If you want this to ever change, you will need to get political. In other places like Canada and the UK, the worker has much stronger protections.

That's an insult to many top performers who have lost their jobs. I had almost 20 years, enjoyed my job and often went above and beyond, as many of my colleagues did who also lost their jobs. A little conceited to think your highly valued? Maybe they're stoking your ego. Maybe not, I don't know you, but you don't know others either to criticize their worth.

Who is lying? I posted about equity grant. And I know I’m not the only one who received one. Maybe if you didn’t get one, you’re not that valuable? Don’t blame me for that.

I agree. I have worked at TR for 10+ years and have always been treated great. Recently, I was told by my manager that they are concerned about turnover and want quality people to stay and help them build for the future. I was granted a pretty sizable equity grant to stay. The cynic in me thinks they’ll cut me right before it fully vests, but until they prove me wrong and do something like that, I’ll stand by the statement TR has been a great place to work.

I completely agree so I wish people would stop whingeing all the time that Thomson Reuters is so mean to its employees. It’s not better or worse than the vast majority of other corporations.
