I like a pithy post.
The FAQ is still there under view more events.
Layoff FAQ page has been pulled from insider. Fingers crossed we find out this week!
That's great you can find a job in your field next week. However, not all are in that same luxurious mindset and are more specialized towards our commodity whose price is absurdly low.
Maybe exercise more empathy to those who moved across the country to work here in a specialized field and may not be at such ease about being out of employment.
Also, you sound like an arrogant prick mentioning that in your second sentence.
I agree with the previous two posters. I can find a job in my field next week if I really wanted too. At APC we sometimes have it "too good", like too good to be true good. The 9/80's (that's almost like an extra 5 weeks vacation...think about it), the PTO + Holidays is something that is envied by all my friends, especially when you consider that we can carry over 3 weeks to the next year (minimum vacation is 4 weeks + 11 holidays, then an extra week of vacation 3 years later, depending on how old you are). Pay + Bonus structure is at the tip top. Being able to attend my children's plays, take a long lunch, work half days, Gym during morning/lunch/evening, etc. Also the people who ride those car/vanpools are subsidized by the company too.
All in all a great company and it is sad that it has come down to this. Good luck to all of us! We can control what we can control! I for one am not worried because I know the one who holds my future ;)
Everyone should read and understand that last comment. I wholeheartedly agree and know that Anadarko is the best company I've every worked for in my two decades in industry. It's a good company in an industry experiencing very tough times. It's not the end of the world if I lose my job, but it is the end of a wonderful run with an excellent employer. I just hope it lasts a lot longer.
The layoffs will come soon enough, so enjoy the extra paychecks while you can. For those that are let go there will be plenty of time to reflect on things. I realized early on in my career that sometimes we have no control over decisions that are made at the top. If you work hard and bring a lot to the table they will keep you, but with that said many good people will be lost this time. There just is not enough cash to run the company with all of us. Enjoy the perks while you can.
APC is a great company, but so many of the employees seem to think they are entitled to all the company offers. For those that keep your job you need to realize how good you have it. To be able to take early and late lunches to workout is a perk. Having the doctor, workout facilities, dry cleaning, and all is a perk. It is not normal to have all these things at all companies. I just talked to a guy at Exxon. He said they don't have 9/80 work weeks, and just recently started a casual dress code. There are faults with all companies, but this company as a whole takes very good care of us. Just appreciate what we have.
This is a good company with an excellent reputation both inside Anadarko and outside. That is why it is so hard for us to imagine what it's like to have a major layoff. I am certain that jobs will be lost at nearly all levels. If manages who fail to lead, mentor, or contribute technically are left untouched, morale will take years to recover and productivity will remain low. The leadership is aware of what they have to do and they will do it.
How many Executive getting cut? No reason for them to lose sleep.
Aw boo hoo you really think they care about individuals getting let go? Difficult for those at the top? yeah right. The reason they chose those individuals was they could make those callused decisions with lack of regard. We were numbers to them and will always be numbers don't bring emotion into this.
This is difficult for everyone involved. That includes those at the top and the ones making the lists.
Communicate with employees that's what they committed to do when the original announcement was made.
What do you expect? This takes time to avoid making it worse than it needs to be. There's nothing more to say.
