"the wireline unit which is the backbone for the wireless unit"

That cracks me up EVERY time I hear it. So untrue.

@KSgtFw0-6fbt exactly this, VZW only uses VZ Comm for cellular backhaul and PSTN trunking in the northeast and even in this footprint the circuits are diversified with other telcos

do people really think wireline is the backbone of wireless? cali has their own dark fiber crews of "wireless" techs. not to mention wireline is just a cost, you can buy the pipe from any dumb company that has it

So your saying Verizon needs over a 100,000 employees to run that tiny wireline footprint in the northeast? What a waste!

Sprint burned bridges with you, well Verizon burned a bridge with me and many others by firing us. So they can go down the tubes for all I care.

Verizons operating costs, dividend obligations and debt payments are too high to compete head to head with Sprint and T Mobile. Game over!

@2bfm .. does Sprint and T-Mobile have a wireline unit? A lot of the Verizon head count comes from the wireline unit which is the backbone for the wireless unit. As for T-Mobile, it they had more employees and spent more money they would still have retail stores in my area. Sprint? Have burned so many bridges with my family that we would pay much more to do business with Verizon than be with Sprint.

Soon we will all be like Mc donalds servers. The company seems to want to just operate out of kiosks and through resellers. If the Mc donalds people get their way they might even end up making more than us. Oh well I guess it is time to move on.

@1dca - Not a chance. Employees are the biggest expense for Verizon and the company is still bloated with headcount at 160,000 employees. Compare that to rivals T Mobile or Sprint who have around 50,000 employees.

Agressive headcount reductions will continue and union positions will be divested.

Maybe if they don't buy yahoo we will keep more jobs. They just want to lull us back into caring about a future here in case they need us.

This is extremely funny because my manager just talked to me about today about new jobs opening with B2B and planned new stores for next year... a week ago he was talking about head count reductions, district realignments so each DM has more stores, eliminating floater positions, reducing SM headcount... lol

OP , the word around here in NorthEast, FIOS is going to take off like a rocket. Big business customers want fiber reliability BUT Verizon does NOT WANT Union workers for this new upswing.

Verizon lies to its customers, lies to its shareholders, lies to its employees. The executive team has zero integrity and Lowell is the biggest liar of them all.

Verizon a company built on lies.

Also to calm shareholders. In a Trump economy, boring telco stocks don't stand a chance. Especially a telco as poorly run as Verizon.
