You can't make this stuff up. Never has there been a company that treats their employees worse than Walgreens. As if it it was bad enough that the company is laying off Pharmacists when they already can't cover shifts during summer vacations, the severance package they are offering is insulting. You were given 2 weeks notice of your termination and offered the package. You could say no and obviously then you simply separate with no compensation or benefits. However, if you accept the package and are offered your job back within 30 days and not accept, you forfeit the severance. If you accept the offer to get rehired within 30 days, you also then forfeit the package. This is an insult. This company feels that can get away with anything. They cannot manage the business and the employees suffer. Work conditions are horrendous while staffing decreased by 30% and salaries drop every year. Keep it up Walgreens!!

JCPENNEY treated it's emploees worse; if you can believe it.
Can’t you denounce this to the government what is happening in this company?
I'm pretty sure if you accept the severance, are offered to get rehired and decline, you keep the severance and can never get rehired by Walgreens. You don't lose the severance unless you accept rehiring, and pretty much nobody who accepted the severance intended to work for Walgreens again. It makes sense to me, but I may not have explained it well.
Yes! I work in CT As a floater pharmacist and I have been told Walgreens can no longer guarantee giving me my base hours and was told I would be offered a severance package! Why would they hire me in April then do this In July? The Retail market is over saturated and I overlooked other offers back in April to join the company, now except at CVS, they are almost no open retail positions at all. I feel let down to be honest, still, it is a life lesson, corporate retail jobs are at-will and you can lose your job and your benefits for any reason or for no reason at all, they is virtually no room for improvement on the pay scale and very little to no appreciation! I wonder why pharmacists don’t have a union to lean onto in such situations!
About 250 to 500 Pharmacists have been laid off to make up the numbers. More to come there is talks about stores closures coming 2. Walgreens wants to replace big stores with small ones. Also they will be laying off all the DMs and consolidating them. I would say if you are a Walgreens employee start shining that resume. If you are a pharmacist have some self respect and quit stop being bullied by these uneducated people
Some people said those laid off could reapply for a job, but at a lower salary rate. So basically, the reason is to re hire you for less money. Pretty cold blooded and cut throat. Walgreens treats their employees the worst!
Why lay you off and then rehire? What are they attempting to do?
Lol let it go it is a miserable company good for you. I am pretty sure they will not exist in few years. Uneducated store managers are telling pharmacy manager how to run there business and the DMs can all be laid off because they are useless. Honestly even customers are fed up with them. Therefore, I would not worry about it. I would talk to a lawyer to see what they can do. Because everything they do is illegal inside of these pharmacies so you might be able to get a better severance package.
