Whole Foods Market has lost their way and no longer has a sense of mission or even a well-thought-out theory of the business. They lack a viable business model that they can replicate. They are floundering around hoping to find a viable strategy that may stop their erosion. Problem is that they lack the time and the capital now.

The best way to bring a company like this under is currently happening. Good people are quitting/getting fired, they aren't shopping there anymore when they used to be loyal customers, they're telling their friends/family/community about what happened to them and now these people aren't shopping there. It's a chain reaction. It's building and building. My last team leader meeting was so sad, because our stl said that the customers we've lost aren't coming back. He's right, and it sucks for good leadership like him if stores start shutting down but this time is long overdue. This company has abused so many people, it's an exception rather than the rule to have actual leaders in your store.
So wfm pretty much brought this upon themselves. Karma for believing that your the grocery darling and no one can touch you.
Yeah. Pretty funny now. Humor's the best way to vent away the abuse heaped upon people for years.
I love this forum! Scientology of retail! I LOVE IT! It makes me feel so happy that we all finally have a VOICE! Keep the comments coming.....we should get 60 Minutes to do a show about this. We would all have to be in shadows and our voices would have to be disgusied! LOL
I'm excited for the future of this company, as long as no one in management stays.
Whole Foods is the Scientology of retail. #WFMteammember
What we are witnessing is the the collective revulsion directed toward the cult leaders and their anointed regional grand poo-bahs and high priests now that it's clear what they're really all about. We see now that the entire thing was nothing more than a front for a fairly small core group of pompous, phony "higher beings" to enrich themselves and their trusted high-level followers. I enjoyed watching the new production of "The Wiz" the other night on NBC. The parallels are awesome. No one in Emerald City actually believes that Mackey, Robb, Gallo etc are wizards deserving of our adulation. They are simply magicians who got lucky and landed in a place where they could get everyone to believe their BS. Customers can get organic carrots, coconut water, almond meal, kale chips, sustainable seafood and a cup of really good coffee (in other words, not Allegro) at like 10 competitors now. If they want to feel good, they can make a donation to the United Way or community food bank. I guess people will have to try to survive without Frankie's Olive Oil though....LOL.
Watching a company in its death throes is painful, even if it's been a long time coming. The worst is that management will be OK, with severance packages. The people who've been busting their butts, trying to bring problems to management's attention and being ignored, making it work with fewer people on their team. They're going to be out of work and with no cushion.
This post was a quote from John Mackey speaking about Wild Oats in a blog he was bashing Wild Oats wild hiding behind an alias
It's a textbook example of what happens to a company when management believes its own marketing and image-consulting bullshit.
Back to the commune John and Walter...you gave your company away.....I was let go and I am your age and know WFM from the beginning. What this company has become is not the company I wanted to work for.....by the way I am HAPPY TOBE GONE. Why? Because I am honest and have respect for myself. Better look deep into NE LEADERSHIP
WFM used to sell stuff that you honestly couldn't find anywhere else. After all these years, the competition sells most of what we do now. Management has never had to think creatively, or efficiently, or work really hard to make sales, because this stuff wasn't yet at costco, or albertson's, or kroger or publix. They are not equipped to handle competition, plus they have been coddled for a long time and this has affected their egos and has made them close-minded and arrogant. This will be a great case study for future economics classes at universities, of how a once-great company fell hard because of incompetent management.
Yes! Time is against this company together with mounting pressure from the competition and add to this, shareholder value!
