It’s like this every year and not because of pending doom. They prep the calendars/key days for every season before releasing it. Always the same year after year.

Company knows they laid off too many last summer. Outlook was bleak and they did what they thought would help. But it was a very short term fix; business is back and now we are struggling with no coverage and not enough managers or colleagues to keep up. So now we paid all that severance and are hiring back some of these people. Makes sense, right?

This has nothing to do with PTO... BUT... we did close a handful of stores in Fall of 2020... in Q4. I wanna say 5 or so. It all depends on real estate and lease contracts that may force you into an "off cycle" close.... so it's not unthinkable. Speaking from a store who went through liquidation in spring... a few stores were finishing up as we announced.

The company wouldn't cut in Q3, as Q4 is the most important timeframe for them. Cuts always come in Q1. Never fails.

8 more sales jobs added and last year they laid off so many sales associates who were probably making less than what these new hires will get.

Cuts are not coming in August. We just had 8 more sales jobs added to our store effective now. Company is trying to hire, why would they cut 2 months from now?

Not usual for it to be blocked, the goal is to try to ensure the company reviews key Days etc. first before allowing colleagues to put in their PTO and UD for the upcoming quarter. The company does ensure that you can enter it at least 45 days prior to the start of the next quarter, hence why you now will have access if you try again. If you had tried to put in UD/PTO in December for Spring 2021 you would have also noticed the same issue.

It just opened up for me. You can put unavailable and PTO days in for August, September and October now. Check again, it just opened up recently.
