Thread regarding Optum layoffs

No safe positions

If you are still working at Optum, your time with the company may be limited. It is important to understand that your years of service and loyalty will not guarantee job security. You will most likely find yourself replaced with a younger, less expensive employee who requires training, regardless of your experience and responsibilities. I know. It happened to me.

If you are a low performer, have a 1, 2, or even 3 if the rest of the team are rated 4s and 5s, and if you have short tenure you are ALWAYS under threat of being RIFed. That is how things always work in big companies. This will be accelerating this summer. Don't be in the bottom 10% of your organization in terms of performance. You are as secure in your job as you are productive and useful to the company...that's what you get paid for. That's the deal.

Found it to be the opposite. Favoritism is rampant. Power points, meaningless culture posts, and nonsense provide security (at least on team I am currently with). Doing real, meaningful work with precision and accuracy gets you nowhere other than a hard time.
High performers seem to be punished.

I couldn’t get any lower at this point. A layoff would be a relief. Please set me free…

Ref: Accenture handling workload. It will be CO as in change order and they welcome that recurring revenues! Yeap...Seen it before and will happen again...As long as they wine/dine before the dotted line signed..no joke... Its a recursive loop - RIFs- consulting , managed services then insource/outsourced/offshore... Oh yeah, forgot lets move it to the clouds after data breach.. then more RIF's ....Who let the dog out?

  1. All IT jobs to Accenture
  2. Accenture will not be able to handle UHG workload
  3. Accenture will be bought by Optum
  4. Optum will not be able to handle non Healthcare workload
  5. It will be LLM loop.

….. Whole US economy will default.

I agree. I had 5 star MAP performance and was promoted in October and my position will be eliminated at of 05/18. I have no hope of being redeployed with these back to back layoffs.

Even those with current 5 star ratings with promotions may survive latest rounds of RIFs, but will need to take on all the extra work from others that are laid off. So, is it really worth it?

I know 3 gone with 5 star ratings and promotions. It's all about saving money so the higher you rise the more money they save canning you. It has never been about your value or quality of the work. It is only about increasing the stock price, any way, any how and has been for YEARS. Thousands at OPTUM and UHG have been laid off in the last 10 years....

Kind of wish I’d get layed off at this point!! At least then I wouldn’t be in a constant state of anxiety

This company is digging it’s own grave and I’m here for it.

they should offer a voluntary layoff pkg. i would definitely take it. but they did it once to try it out and too many took the offer - and not all were ones that optum wanted to lose.
