Employee Morale at EM?

How is it? I am w/Noble (11 years) - I think we are at the very bottom right now...

Started at Exxon in the 90s at the time of $10/bbl. 80s bloodbath was still fresh in peoples memories. Even today can't match the cynicism and delicious sarcasm of those survivors. Fun times! But there is a difference: back then there was no question about the future of the industry. Today, it's pretty clear that O&G best days are behind us. Demand may come back to 2019 level in a few years, but growth will be elusive. And the saudis and russians will fight us tooth and nail for every drop. Just look at the names in the org announcements to see where the company is headed. I advise anyone with a future to get out of the industry now.

Morale is in the gutters not necessarily because of budget cuts, which needed to happen years ago, but because of the underhanded process of terminating people so they don’t have to pay real severance. Labour laws are obviously stricter in Australia, so they offered decent packages there.

NSI'd 30+ year employee here. Even before that, morale at Clinton (both CSR and EMRE) was the lowest that I've ever seen. Even though you might assume that the staff who survived the last ranking process breathed a sigh of relief, I doubt their morale got any better after they tool a look around an saw which of their team members had left the company.

As stated in other threads, it's not so much the fact that the company needed to downsize because of budget cuts, it's the way this has all been handled. Executives lying through their teeth, while they give you their fixed grin. The ranking system being revised twice (first new bucket names, then minimum 8% in NSI with no limit on how far up or down people could move) between cycles. Supervisors being empowered (see what I did there?) to put "difficult" employees (i.e. critical thinkers, not "yes" men or women) into the bottom 8% with no questions asked by Management, HR or Law.

No morale in EM. Booted out from ethical company since they lay off employee in immoral way.
Worst company in 2020.
Toxic workplace
Zombie mana age meant
Vampire leadership who s—ed its employees blood to sustain live.

20+ years, and like most people here - this is the worst I’ve ever seen. I don’t see any way that things will change and I don’t believe in our strategy (if you can call it that).

@1sqh+178MiypE. That is a very honest and accurate post. I’m hopeful Dallas is reading this forum and are taking notes. It’s unlikely but the management team needs to look at the brutal truths and let reality sink in.

I can only speak from an engineer’s prospective, but morale is the worst that I’ve seen in my decades of service. It is really sad because I honestly believe that on average we have the best and brightest people in the industry and historically nobody has responded better to external crises then we have (pick your hurricane). But not today. We’re all frozen in place while we wait for the next shoe to drop. We’ve all seen people that we respect stripped of their reputations and shown the door and learned of a benefits cut from press reports. Management “Town Halls” only make the situation worse with their pre-planted Q&As. My hope is that management pulls the bandaid off on any remaining cuts before the end of the year so that the healing can begin and that they do so with the dignity and respect for their employees that they have shown during prior downturns.

worst Company ever.
I Remember during the good oil price days, URC Presidents, VPs. managers, safety leads were busy tailgating everyone on Greenway Plaza and UTTC buildings so they have discussion and emails and other charades discussing risks and fake safety.
These Exxon mo–ns don’t understand the world doesn’t care about bunch of losers and the funny thing is all here years, there has been nothing worth being secretive about. Maybe that’s what they need to hide being a useless org.

I Want to throw up every time when I remember having to observe such id–tic behavior from what I thought were educated people

OP. I am a 20ish year employee- this is the worst I’ve seen, by a lot. Never been a friendly or high morale place to be and management has always been secretive rather than transparent. But they have now lost a lot of credibility they cannot easily regain by misrepresenting their actions earlier this year.

Welcome.
Sorry to see what's going on with Noble.
It won't be called 'Chevron Noble'.

But then 'Exxon Mobil' is a fake name as well.
It's been Exxon - the double-cross - all the way down.

Morale at Exxon probably lowest since the Oil Embargo in the 70s.
But this time it is internal causes.
