AmerisourceBergen Layoffs 2023

If the economy turns around, do you anticipate any AmerisourceBergen layoffs? Any chatter, news or rumors?

Another round of layoffs last week which I was caught up in. Middle management with tenure to the people on this chain who don’t see it…..that’s who they cut. Then they hire 2 people for the salary the manager or director was paid. They are Ruthless when my meeting started my boss and HR person acted like they didn’t even know me. I had empathy for the HR person and said to them it must be so hard for you to do this. None for my manager , clearly they didn’t care despite my “outstanding “ reviews. Hey, how else are they going to pay for all of these lawsuits????? My theory is that’s why the name change they want to shed AB identity because it’s related to the opi--d crisis. I’m glad to be out of the very woke company that’s so afraid that they bow to extreme leftists.

20 year plus employee laid off. No warning. My dear "old boy" bosses/friends with whom I helped make MWI what it is (was) are rolling in their graves. Not what they intended. "Put people first." Yeah.

The DOJ civil lawsuit against AB filed Dec 29, 2022 - not related to the one settled for Feb 2022 for $6B. End of Jan/beg of Feb they freeze all hiring, cut travel, stop consulting spend. Hmmmm then they blow smoke up our a-s that current FTE will not be impacted but then layoff 450 with horrible sev, of the what - 5,000 total corp FTEs they have?? Who cares if there is 45,000 employees - AB is distribution - duh they have a ton out there. But no distribution or international were impacted. Wake up to whoever is left and GET OUT before you are round 2 or 3 of layoffs!!!

In the name of cost saving its complete misuse of power.Laid off extremely hard working and talented employees just to gain control and satisfy their egos.None of the upper management had any acceptable reason for these lay offs which clearly shows who is gonna enjoy the profit gained through laid off employees hard work.

Hey @2dioj - a lot of job postings we have are fake, we know we are advertising as it makes us look good but nobody will be hired. All companies do this.

I am seeing all these comments about being laid off and yet I looked up this company due to the enormous amount of open positions that was recently posted on Indeed. I m experienced in the accounting field and I'm wondering why are they hiring so many if they are firing

Some very poor decisions in who they laid off is disturbing. It looks like they let go of the non-yes men who work the hardest and aren’t afraid to point out flaws. Slowly building a culture of simple minded oblivious people.

Laid off yesterday. FTE 3.5 yrs, got the meeting invite for 11:30 AM. The usual we've eliminated your position, strategic reallignment, today is your last day, yada, yada, yada... I'm getting paid through May 1st, Medical benefits though the end of May, 4 weeks severance, and all accrued PTO paid out. They'll subsidize COBRA if you need it after medical runs out. Considered rehireable. Only 3 people on the call, my VP, the HR Rep and me. VP gave the speech but to his credit he seemed kind of broke up and very uncomfortable about it. VP quickly left the call and when I spoke to the HR Rep and said to her "I can't imagine having to do this a couple dozen times over the course of a few days" and empathized with her over how horrible it must be to have to do that, I think she almost cried. She was on camera and you could see how hard it was on her. I assured her I would be okay and usually find alternative roles fairly quickly, and she thanked me for saying what not many people ever consider. Bottom line, the process was cr-ppy, I was wrecked and still am. I've also had time to think about it and in a company of 40k employees, if it were my company, I wouldn't broadcast to all 40k employees that we're having a layoff of 500 employees (500 enterprise-wide I've heard) and put them all out on a ledge. That said, they've let some incredible talent go in some strategic areas with seeming no thought to who should remain in what role. If it bites them in the bu-t, so be it. Lol... one of the corporate core values is "Put people first and the rest will follow" - it was stenciled on the walls at the office. Turns out that was more like one of those "Live, Laugh, Love" signs than an actual company value.

Laid off internal auditors. Major red flag. Undetected risks are going to come back and hurt the company.

This sums up AB's Severance Policy - this is the minimum, it goes up from here for higher levels.

for FTE / minimum of 30 hours per week.

  • one week’s Salary for each Year up to 10 completed years;
  • one and one half weeks Salary for each Year in excess of 10 completed years.
  • in no event will a Severance be less than the 4 weeks Salary

The comment regarding VPs being excluded is not true. Don't share inaccurate information.

AB has a documented severance policy. What I am seeing in chatter does not match what is documented as policy.

I'm FTE. Laid off effective immediately yesterday with 2 weeks severance. I wasn't there very long (8mo) but 2 weeks is ROUGH.

Did the try to get around the Warn Act? Heres few comments from other people at different companies.

WARN requires 60 notice or 60 days pay in lieu of notice

I am receiving the 60 days pay plus health insurance in lieu of notice.

If the company designates that severance benefits are made in lieu of WARN notice, then unemployment benefits may be delayed for up to 60 days.

File today. If you sign an agreement that severance was paid in lieu of notice, then benefits may be delayed 60 days. The April agreement did not say that severance was in lieu of notice and people collected beginning the first full week they were unemployed.

By law they're required to give employees 60 day notice of layoffs. By paying us 8 weeks, they get around this law. It's called pay in lieu of notice. It's not them being compassionate, it's just them avoided lawsuits.

They can give you a 60 day severance payment in lieu of the notice. That's why people get 8 week severance, in that case they do not want to file anything.

Let’s face reality. The amount of stock buybacks, and dividend payments to shareholders has played a major role in layoffs. Billions of dollars, truly an obscene amount of money spent on dividends and buybacks. The company has turned what was once a company who’s top priority was to provide excellent access to life saving medications, to now a company who prefers to line the pockets of investors. You were there to service investors not patients.
