Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

How many people are missing in your store?

There are many more jobs than there are employees. And we are more than short on staff, however, no one new is coming in, and one person left just last week. It's not clear to me how this all works, but I'm pretty sure I'll have to go soon too because I can't take this situation in the store anymore.
It's a big mess.

Heck, I would've stayed on but they laid me off

The west coat was just merged with the Midwest and the new regional team doesn't seem to understand the difference between small stores in Kansas and the big stores on the west coast. Two DVP's have either quit or transferred in the last month, store managers and mid–level executives looking to stay with the company are resigning or transferring to other regions in an attempt to get back to some sort of reasonable leadership and workload.

We are short staffed in a hard to hire area, some people who have been here for several years have quit but not replaced, just shuffle other employees around to fill the void. The oddity is that we have at least 4 transfers that came from the west coast, almost all around the same time. What's with that? Are people fearing for their life on the west coast?

We have enough money to hire outside speakers to have a one hour a day teams call for the week of understanding daily video conference that our store manager makes us watch every day but no money to fix our busted HR system. Are we a social organization or a business, it's getting hard to tell.

@1esu+1atjZgFu, your post is exactly right. Phoenix is a huge failure but no one in charge wants to even acknowledge there's a problem. I'm completely disgusted by what we've been given to work with.

Once again the lowest bidder developed the new ironically named Phoenix HR system. We took the old system offline on 2/15 and no stores have been able to fill open jobs until the beginning of this month. Even after the new system went online after repeated delays, we were greeted with a poorly designed system with the least intuitive interface that has ever been an HR professionals misfortune to use.

It is so bad that MBA's are quitting, so many people are complaining that on this weeks leadership calls the regional and divisional presidents told everyone to shut–up and figure out how to use it. Instead of supporting stores, the new approach is to pretend like it's an end user problem instead of a gigantic failure by our HR and Systems teams. Clearly someone was sold a bill a goods on our new software package and like usual, hiring managers are the ones now being blamed for not being able to hire anyone, regardless of how many applicants are interested.

Someone looking for a clue as to why NPS survey scores are so dropping? Anyone think there might be a correlation with the huge number of unfilled shifts due to open jobs? Employees and managers are stressed, business is coming back and the gas station on the corner can hire someone by putting a sign in the window and having them fill out a paper application, scheduling an interview, and making a job offer – all within a couple of days. Our new "automated" system takes weeks, not days, to hire someone when it seldom works and doesn't require that we send 10 emails asking for help with glitches. If it wasn't so tragic, it would be comical.

Best of luck with the Phoenix, hopefully it will eventually rise from the ashes of its predecessor before we lose too many more people who are getting tired of being asked to pick–up more hours and shifts. It's too bad, just when we are seeing increased traffic the company finds a way to once again hamstring the store teams,

We have so many open positions in our store but they're all PT so no one wants them (especially since Macy's pays less than Walmart, Target and Amazon).

It's not because of "software issues". It is intentional. It makes it look like the company is buzzing and hiring when they are really not hiring, not spending $.

Before Covid we were staffed at over 400 emp, oyees. Now we are at 100. Lots of jobs advertised, but little hiring being done due to new HR software issues.
