Thread regarding Nielsen layoffs

Nielsen owes you nothing.

Mass layoffs are common in tech. Even google laid people off. Tech laid off a large quantity of people. Nielsen dont owe you an explanation for large amount of layoffs. So what if they removed the comments on a town hall video? So what? It's not like anyone saved a copy right? Instead of watching town hall video and being paid for watching, you contribute to Nielsen by doing productive work. Work harder. If you all had worked harder, Nielsen might not need to lay off people as they would be like a huge success. Work and earn your keep. Quite complaining.

When Nielsen let people go, the first thing the supervisor does is to harrass the worker, which is called professional harrassment. They make life misserable then they fire you!

It does not matter if you work hard or work from Sunday to Sunday. They don't review performance when they let you go! They just cut numbers!

We have ineffective, bullying managers who receive bonuses, tell their underpaid and overworked employees they received bonuses. We are out here literally working six and seven days a week , being micromanaged, undervalued by people with no credibility or management skills. Maybe it is time to leave. Or perhaps get rid of an effect of management so the people who actually make the company can do their job the way they know how to do their job.

This company does not provide a safe environment, respect is not shown, managers are full on bullies. How did they “earn” the MRC accreditation -going for impressions has and will loose the only identity that uniquely defined and set

This has very little to with the little guy. This is mismanagement and not have a vision. We didnt over extend ourselves by buying companies, we didn't add extra personnel to the company just to lay them off, we didn't bring in our besties for positions they're not suited. I've never misused corporates funds or the corporate vehicle. I worked nearly every day, every weekend to do my part in making the company successful. I barely bought office supplies. During the pandemic, I barely used the company car. I left of my own free will because I saw where this was going. Some very uppity people who think they are better than everyone despite they're low level positions will feel the burn.

The overall feeling is that Nielsen is done and will be sold in small pieces to competitors.
People are just waiting to get laid off and hoping that they will receive full severance packages.

Are bonuses not paid out based on performance of the company? How could Nielsen justify paying out bonuses when the financials are in such dire straits?
When people make personal budgets they cut out “nice” things to have or do and keep the essentials.
Positions that not critical to the business operations should be examined. Do we need diversity officers, administrative assistants, BRG leaders, NGID programs that pay employees to volunteer time to the community, layers of HR employees, facility managers, procurement managers, etc. There seems to be a lot of fat on the bone but all we see is layoffs to the people that actually do the work.
Nielsen is not unionized so there should be no issues in having the leaders roll up their sleeves and do some of the day to day work.
I don’t have clarity to the responsibilities of each employee but there still seem to be many positions that could be considered a luxury.

I fully understand that it is not as simple as this is going to sound but if DK or KR would give up one year of their salaries, it would save so many employee jobs or at least give those employees more severance. In all honesty, employees making $15-$20 per hour will be able to replace their wages much faster than an employee with 30 years of service to Nielsen. Any layoff will lead to stress and hardships and Nielsen needs to do more to support those impacted. I’m sure DK and KO earn their $5 million dollar bonuses but if they would forgo these bonuses for 1 year each, it may give Nielsen the time it needs to fix what is broken.

So ends another week at Nielsen. What will next week bring? More layoffs? Beyond the layoffs and salary freeze do David and Kartick have a plan? Has everyone forgotten about Karthick inappropriate behavior with an attorney that reported to him? How much money did it cost Nielsen to shut down that story?

It’s a shame how some people use this board as a poor attempt to sound like talk show hosts with pop culture references and snappy banter.
People are concerned about there futures with Nielsen. While the people who have been part of the layoffs are certainly having to rethink their futures, the people who remain employed and are trying to show their worth are under tremendous mental stress. No one is forcing you to come to this website and read the comments, just stay away.

Has every part of the company experienced layoffs or has it been only certain areas. It would be interesting to see the layoff distribution.

It’a actually more a balance. I’m a top performer, hard worker : the net result is getting more work to be done and few or none recognitions. This year the requests of adding more and more activities and responsibilities are just crazy. Despite the layoff, that it’s true are common in tech these days, the lack of recognition and misalignment between roles and real assignment is ki-ling nielsen. You should fire half of the company and reward the other half.

Yes Nielsen owes you payment/benefits for hours worked and not much beyond that.
What is not correct is when people’s feelings are trivialized. During the Town Hall there were many mean spirted posts but there were also people concerned about paying their rent, affording medication, buying food for their families.
Nielsen can not lose sight of these individuals and tell them that if they can’t handle it, look for another job.
What was said in the town hall were truthful and honest but the town hall was not the place to say that.
Senior Nielsen leadership should have met with all their people leaders, explained what was happening, partner with HR and then have the people leaders communicate that information to their direct reports.
David and Karthick are so far removed from the hourly workers that it made the message sound callus. And sorry David, your smile, laugh and Peace Out comment were out of line. Karthick, we could see your facial reaction to every comment posted and the anger was obvious.
Please do not generalize and think that everyone is bitter. People are concerned and there reactions are based on emotions.
David, Karthick and other senior leadership members should not allow their emotions to be showcased in that type of forum.
You can be honest as to the decisions that need to be made to keep the company profitable but you cannot lose your compassion toward your employees.
I would say that if you’ve lost that compassion then you should not be in a leadership position or at least not be the person presenting this information.

I completely agree with your post. I come here to find out about layoffs and all I see is bitter people whining. Nielsen is a BUSINESS bottom line. Right or wrong it’s a business at the end of the day!! So many opinions about how the business is ran but have any of you ever been the head of a billion dollar company??? I definitely haven’t. If you don’t like how the business is ran look for another job… It is up to you to make your life what you want. All the personal vendettas, weird YouTube videos, demeaning comments are getting you nowhere! Please find a better forum. Some of us are actually concerned about layoffs and sifting through your angry comments is ANNOYING. Find another place to work… really that simple

Nielsen's demise is the responsibility of the so-called leaders. They pocket most of the company's revenue and make terrible decisions. When they feel their pockets are threatened they go on a firing spree, yet keep promoting themselves to higher positions. Now is the time to air their dirty laundry in public. They do well in a controlled environment as they know how to keep everyone in line through threats of firing but won't dare to say a word in public. To that I say: crash the he-l out of their existence.

"Work harder. If you all had worked harder, Nielsen might not need to lay off people as they would be like a huge success."

No amount of work that I do can overcome the utter sh--e decision making by the higher ups. I'm sorry that they can't seem to run this business well, but that's the reason why this company has experienced multiple stages of layoffs, as well as repeated buyouts.
