A little over a year ago, Saudi Arabia said that they were going to put the "marginal producers" (AKA US shale producers) out of business. They then proceeded to increase their output by 1 million bpd and swamped the oil market. If a US producer had done this, they would have been drawn, quartered, sued, and prosecuted. Being that they are the biggest oil exporter in the world, nobody said a word.
I retired last week. I am really not that upset about it because I got a good package and was planning to leave anyway in the next couple of years. However, I know that not everyone is in that situation, which really makes me sad.
I don't blame APC senior management. They are trying to keep the company afloat under attack from the Saudis. They held off longer than nearly all of the other companies, and the cut was smaller than most.
I don't blame HR. They had a tough job. You could not pay me enough to do what they do.
I don't blame the people who got to keep their jobs. They are still my friends and I want them to be successful.
However, I do pray that those people who lost their jobs and have mortgages, kids in school, and credit card debt will quickly land in a good career spot.
I pray for the service company people who lost their jobs, as they got hit really hard.
I pray that those who are bitter because of the layoff will find peace.
I pray that those left in our shrinking US oil and gas industry will be successful at fighting off this outside threat.
And I pray that Anadarko will grow and be successful. It is still a great company with great people. And besides, I don't want to sell my APC stock at $48/sh!
Best Wishes to you all!
