Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Nothing about 30 days to find another job

My separation package mentions nothing about the possibility of future employment at Cisco.

Who can I ask if I am eligible for rehire? I had no employment/performance issues that I knew of and consistently received 100% and more of expected bonus.

Is there a Cisco HR resource who I can call about this? I would like to stay with the company but this language doesn’t sound promising.

No one gets opportunities for training and certifications while working at Cisco unless you forego sleep.

I was given the door today with 25 days to find a job, after 17 years of service. A simple but brutal 25 min interview out of the blue, I have taken a lot sh-- at Cisco, but I believe it has prepared for the outside, my advise to Cisco employees is to take the opportunities for certifications and training and be prepared, never let your certifications expire !

Unless you're really passionate about something stop treating any position at any employer as anything more than a paycheck. There is zero loyalty and it's quite obvious if you have been paying attention to Cisco and the corporate world the past decade plus. Stop investing emotionally in any employer unless it's yourself... paychecks are a means to an end so do what you need to do to get it but don't drink the kool aid.

Folks, having been through the 2011 RIF, I would strongly suggest looking at the possibility of leaving the nest. This wasn't an easy realization for me - I enjoyed Cisco and tried interviewing for open positions before my official departure date, coming up second fiddle at least twice.

I leveraged Lee Hecht Harrison's outplacements services extensively, refining my resume, learning the #RTP, #NC networking scene and LinkedIn to (eventually) land at a SaaS software shop. Once there I refined some skills and used it as an entry point into "cloud". Obviously, it was a good markets space to land in 7+ years ago.

I am happy to help others in this new world. Please connect with me at: linkedin/in/chrismarin and reference this post.

Good luck!

Why stay when you will face the same situation again and again? Cisco let me go last year after almost 22 years of service. My advice is move on to other opportunities. Cisco is not the company it used to be and never will be.

In the US you can't file for unemployment until your severance runs out.

I was LR'd in September 2016 as a blue badge and rehired 3 months later as a blue badge. Had to pay back about half of my severance including COBRA (but not the pay in lieu, used COBRA, or PTO). Your network will ALWAYS be your best bet to find a job (either back here or somewhere else) but many people don't get it and put effort in to building/maintaining it.

Nothing about unemployment insurance and filing for unemployment either. I thought that was a law, they have to provide that info... not in this package.

A few years ago I was in the same position, had an interview and it went really well, then got a call to say I was unsuccessful, guess that's what happens when you are 50+

I've seen a few people re-hired as red badges at a fraction of the price. Do not expect to find another full-time job at Cisco. You might obtain a few phone screens from Cisco recruiters.... it's a complete waste of time and energy. Look externally.

You don't want to leave the gravy train. You had an easy job I guess and maybe it was WFH too.

You can be rehired. They just don't spell it out in the package. Attend the layoff mtg they will hold for all affected and they explain everything to you. Good luck.

The language you want to pay attention to is the part where if you're hired anywhere inside of 30 (or whatever#) days you lose your severance. You can get rehired of course - but why would you want to?
