Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Ground preparation for major layoff in Dell EMC storage

"....... whole of Dell EMC storage is in trouble. JC has now started exercise on getting the headcount baselined. Every manager in storage (yes only storage not server, desktop or networking) is now asked to provide the details of his/her reportees and what product line he/she is working on. This is a strange exercise because this data is already available through the business heads. What this shows is that JC doesn't trust the storage leadership and wants direct updates from individual managers of their reportees. Why this data is being collected is a no brainer. there are going to be decisions mainly regarding cost cutting which will be derived from this data. so look forward to huge cuts in storage across product lines and sites."

This is true. All managers are going through this exercise. Major layoffs planned in storage across business units/products and sites. The question is when. Most likely in February. Any further info / updates please post.

Can confirm this is not a rumor. The survey is taking place this week, HR is not involved (for what they're worth, HR should be layed off by a 'hired-for-this-occasion firing squad, IMO).

With a 67 billion dollar acquisition of a company whose revenues were falling and has outdated technologies, layoffs are foregone conclusion, whatever the criteria or excuse for it. The RIF will go on for over a decade, recovering billions of dollars is neither a trivial task nor a quick work. New companies that sell x86 hardware with software-defined storage that scales out will destroy Dell-EMC. Plans to build competing products are at the moment too primitive and are only on papers, they even sound outright ludicrous. Best case scenario would be join a company that is growing and not shrinking like Dell-EMC is.

Most likely true. Were they on your left side or right side. I am more worried about what I overheard from next table in cafeteria. These fellows were talking that there's going to be a nuclear war with North Korea. Should I build an underground bunker.

to be fair, tell dell should not be taken blindly as the only means of sacking. For single silo role groups that do one single job, usually the lazy senior team members would huddle together to choose the manager that will stroke their ego the most and give that person an excellent 100% best manager in the world. HR can be stupid but the smart ones know that when the group performance is sh-- but the tell dell is perfect, something is definitely wrong with the dynamics.

Well Dell EMC Storage shrank by almost 30% in 2017. This is The End, the ultimate solution for Dell EMC...

Managers with average (last 3 years) direct tell Dell score below 65 and direct NPS below 20, will be targeted. HR collecting information by having confidential meeting with employees.
