I want to go into merchandising from sales. Merchandisers get paid $1 more, correct? And you have early morning shifts. Merchandising seems better than sales and dealing with the customers.

The Selling Support Merchandisers work different shifts either open or close. No more coming in two hours before the store opens.
Currently, merchandisers get better hours. They always work during the day.
What world are you living in ? Macy’s has been hiring people at $15 or more per hour since October. They advertised $15 to $16 in their job postings on LinkedIn. The folks from the temp agencies were making $18 an hour. Meanwhile the long term tenured employees are being paid anywhere from from $9 to $14 an hour.
That Is why so many people have quit .
Macy’s is a lying, unethical organization!
Adapt or leave that is hysterical. All of the good people have already left this organization.
The retailers who have adopted this concept operate in a totally different manner than Macy’s. Their stores are plan-o-grammed so when merchandise is received the employees know exactly where to place it. Macy’s is in a constant state of flux. Constant direction needs to be given in order for merchandise to flow and be placed appropriately.
No wonder Macy's will be having numerous hiring events through out the year. Just in case employees started to quit left and right. Once word gets out that Macy's will start paying $15 per hour in May, alot of people will be interested in applying at Macy's. Now that this coming June the roll out of the "Innovation Selling Program" will be in full effect in all the stores.
Macy's is moving toward the new future of retail. A number of retailers have already adopted the Innovation Selling Program in various forms. Adapt or leave.
Our store is a Growth store and went to a massive change last year because it was part of the pilot program " Innovation Selling Program ", Most of the associates didn't like the changes because they were move from different department areas each day when they come to work. The store even added a central checkout station at each floor. Most of the registers were remove expect for commission departments. Most of the associates quit because of the schedules and they couldn't adapt to the changes. Most of them have been working at the same department for years.
So basically starting in June front of house support jobs are being eliminated? They will be hiring only sales people who will merchandise when they can get to it? Who will be moving/changing out fixtures as merchandise supplies change on the floor? Fixture setting/arranging is big part of what support does.
To the prior poster. What is that supposed to mean? Throat punch? I would think sales would have a harder time adjusting than support.
Sit tight… I hear that the non sales associates are in for a throat punch of changes coming their way.
We've seen the project center about this new method called Innovative. Yes if you are a merchandise colleague you will be required to help on the sales floor and help customers and run the register. No more coming in early, you won't ever come in more than 2 hours before store opening any longer. We have a sales manager that came from a pilot store and she said to get ready for massive changes on how we operate when it's rolled out to everyone in June. You do not get more money just to move to support, and no one is getting anything right now because we are up for annual review soon.
Get ready folks! This is the new culture of Macy's. It's going to be a rollercoaster ride this year.
re Visual
During the pilot last year, the visual teams got whittled down to one person (a Visual Captain) and the rest of the visual associates became "front of house support" . A lot of people quit.
Having only 1 visual person per store wasn't exactly tenable, so for the 2022 roll-out, Captains in some stores will have one visual associate, but no longer the big teams as before.
The new visual direction is really specific. You must follow directive exactly, down to every mannequin look and table fold, as sent down from corporate. They want all the stores to look the same and have made the directives easy to follow so that sales/ merchandising can also do visual. Creativity is out the door.
What is the Innovation Selling Program?
Bye Bye Macy’s! I quit today.
Jeff Gannett , all the lying regionals and lying store leaders can 💋 where the sun don’t shine.
Your are all a bunch of garbage
Last spring of 2021, 53 Macy's stores was part of a pilot program call " Innovation Selling Program." So what's the new dress code?
Visual falls under BOH.
Where does visual fall in all this merging?
Yes it’s true that Merchandisers will be supporting the sales floor along with the sales colleagues. All set to roll out in June. I am an MBA by the way. I don’t know all of the specifics but information is starting to come out on the spring transition tile on our portal. I just started reading bits and pieces yesterday. It’s going to be rolled out to the stores’ leadership teams shortly leading up to the official implementation in June.
In the spring of 2021 our store was part of the pilot program, selling and merchandising is combine so associates have to do everything. There schedules are from opening to close, store hours. Support back to house is receiving, fulfillment and sale set days. There schedules are coming in early in the morning at 8 a m. Yeah we had our issues but the program work successfully. Eventually the associates needed to adapt to the changes.
Merchandiseing is coming front of house now same with markdowns. The only "support" back of house will be receiving, sale set and Fulfillment. So when the changes go 100% in June you'll be able to Merchandise while in the selling side anyway.
To the previous poster. Sales and merchandising are not combining. Where on earth did you hear that? And I don’t think it matters if you’re a merchandiser or in sales. You are
Paid based on experience
It’ll all be changing soon. Support and Sales will be combining to have more floor coverage and share ALL tasks. No more early start times.
Me too :-)
