Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Depressing

Guys, I am feeling so sad today that I was asked to leave my job at Cisco . I spent so much of my time here contributing to the organization and was treated so badly.

This is the 5th layoff since 2011... who else can you blame other than leadership. Future growth is +- 1%.

I've been affected to, but the best thing to do is move on.. Quickly!! But its easier said than done :)

Hey @J2ysrw8-ocv,

It is a leadership failure, because they failed to see the changes and let the company founder for so long. If they had really been good leaders, they would have either not acquired so many companies only to cut the employees, and later the products, or they would have re-assigned the employees, getting experience people doing useful things and keeping morale high.

Now they are killing productivity every year starting in July as the deathwatch starts.

Oh, and they still keep trying to sell that "Cisco is family" crap

It's hard to get cut and it never feels fair. In fact it isn't. It does build personal character that will stay with you throughout your life. And when the time comes that you must make these sorts of decisions that might impact others, you're going to have empathy and hopefully a greater sense of humanity in the way you handle people. You already sound like a good person with deep feelings for others. Don't let this impact the way you feel about yourself or others.

I was laid off in 2014. Saw all the signs and was expecting it but still when it happened, I took it pretty bad at first. It will take you some time to recover and rejuvenate! Stay strong and start looking for another job but do rest up first. Spend time with family/friends and take some time out to enjoy your life away from Cisco. It is true - Life is better after Cisco. Took off for 2 years and landed a much better job. Now I have a better paying job, less toxic environment and nicer team than Cisco. Remember it is NOT you. It is Them and management. Hang in there and stay positive. Good Luck ")

I texted my boss to email me the package instead of having 1-1 :)

I am in the same situation and feel your pain. I can't help but feel that this situation exists due to the outsourcing of manufacturing that started years ago. It started small, but now everything is done overseas. With the manufacturing moves the support and all of the other jobs. It is sad.

Don't feel sad. Cisco's loss is someone's gain. I got impacted and my boss (Indian) spent less than 3 minutes w me after my 22 yrs of Services w this company. This is never the Same company where everyone has worked for. It's a biz decision to use cheaper labor somewhere else or make room for more acquisition as Cisco cannot innovate any more. Take a break and move on. All my friends who left all said it's their best decision ever.

I still believe that this is not a leadership failure. This is new world management style. Employees provide a service and, once you get your paycheck, you are even. There is no sentimentality, no "people religion" in Cisco leadership. Any talk about family is just talk. Just a low grade, cheap oil to keep the gears turning. By this time next year, headcount will be returned to current levels and there will be another layoff. In 2000, the goal was 5% managed out. So, now, it's 7-8%. This is Cisco? A temporary stopping point.

return the equipment and sign the agreement (if you accept it) ASAP - don't wait - it helps with coping to do it quickly just like taking off a band-aid

It s---s. And the process of returning equipment and signing the agreement s---s and is very emotional. But I promise you that once you've gotten rid of all that stuff and have no Cisco reminders (your badge, your laptop, etc), you'll feel a big weight off your shoulders. You will be ok. Maybe even take a week or so to relax (if you can. I could not when I went through this). You will learn a lot about yourself and how strong you really are. Best of luck!

I was affected as well... but take this as an opportunity for something new. Don't blame yourself for someone elses (leadership) failure. 5 layoffs and still struggling... must be something wrong with leadership execution.

The wound is fresh. Take a break. Be thankful for whatever you got out of the experience. Move on to your next challenge. It's not you - it's them. Good luck.
