I’m super curious about who trolls these boards? Are there folks from other companies reading these? I certainly wouldn’t bother to read other company sites... maybe we should as a perspective check. Things are not “sunshine and roses” at our competitors either... Or is this just an echo chamber of disgruntled current and former employees? If it’s just EM people posting and reading from EM people, it seems like we are just feeding the gossip and rumor mills and attempting to fan the flames. Maybe HR should just post facts and communications here? Lord knows you might actually read these instead of company emails... just a thought!

Chevron here! The music is slowing in O&G. Time to grab my coat and keys
+35 years at EM in Europe. Interesting to read what is happening outside "my" zone.
I am from RDS. My dad was a lifer at XOM. Watched him work his way up in the company and retire comfortably. It makes me damn sad I won’t have the same chance. 30+ years nowadays no company gives two effs. Especially not OG.
I'm currently on PIL. Was an experienced hire in a technical position. Got blindsided like many on here. Happy to report that I managed to secure employment with another company. Best of luck to everyone who has gone through the XOM deceit. In all my years of experience working for several different companies, this is by far the most dishonest one I've ever worked for.
Ex employee here. Now in a different company and a lot happier and better paid. I came across this forum after hearing about it from a former colleague. Very sad in many ways about what has, and is continuing to happen at EM. Not a happy camp.
Chevron. EOI'ing with 1 yr of pay. Reading the XOM threads makes me hug my severance package tighter everyday.... Goodbye O&G
if you really want to connect with exxonmobil people who are not afraid to take risks go to blind. Open boards are just that: open to anyone with any agenda.
@Be Honest - But, dude, "false statements" are EXACTLY what we heard in employee forums and internal communications (which were few and far between). Putting out vague and ambiguous statements for public consumption is one thing, lying to your own employees is unforgivable.
Thanks for that perspective @Fappiano - many of us really do care. I did go read other O&G sites last night and they all sound the same... lots of unproductive ranting and trolling. I get it- people love to rant online anonymously, but if everyone here thinks EM is the worst, then just go read up on BP or Shell.... yeeesh. I’ll happily keep my seat at ExxonMobil thank you very much. At least we aren’t making up false statements or commitments externally that we can’t honor.
- and shout out to the #XOMBIE ... that’s clever. :). I might have to use that.
Corporation mission 101: Increase shareholder value. This is basically the first thing they teach people in business school.
Shell employee here from Texas. Just trying to see if other OG companies are doing as bad as we are. Definite cluster around here...
Majority of stuff on this site is more rumor than actual fact. So take what people are saying with a grain of salt.
Exxon in calgary.... I read this stuff to learn and see what’s happening in other regions
Here from an IT company (Not MSFT) and I read these threads to get an inside look into your culture. It seems that you all are proud of what you do & thats special and what makes it more special Is that you all care about what happens or is happening to ExxonMobil. Its true what someone said on this thread that ‘Exxon needs a strong partner’ to push through this time as past 100 is history. Also it goes like this “you cannot use yesterday’s tools to solve todays problem and be in business tomorrow”.
Godspeed!
30+ years with EM. Learning more about EM via actions, and lack thereof, in 2020 than in past 29 years combined. Even so, want us to find a way to turn a corner. We are all part of the solution. And perhaps, there will be further deadheading across organization, starting at the top, and this will create space for EM to get back to our "humble" roots. And leaders will be more comfortable with working with new players, and seeing opportunities for new growth, beyond methods of past 100 years.
I find Blind to be much better for real conversations and info. I come here for the laughs.
Hahaha...these responses make me laugh. This is probably the most honest thread in the entire site! I appreciate the admissions of trolling from other companies. I’m going to go pour myself a glass of wine and read BP, Chevron and Amazon now... thanks y’all.
Chevron here. Just seeing how our other O&G brothers are doing. Hope to see a rebound in the industry soon.
EM excellent employee, just enjoying the real conversations here.
I read this board so I can tell my Division Manager what emails will them get tomorrow from Dallas :)
From an IOC
ExxonMobil employee in downstream. Middle rank with company for just under ten years.
Former ExxonMobil employee. Miss those days. All the best XOM
I'm ex-SLB... now in completely different industry.
But I am always watching these message boards to get an idea of what's happening in the streets.
I own XOM stocks!
I see PR is posting now
Really? Amazon. No way amazon is coming here for that info. Troll
Ex-ExxonMobil geoscientist here. Currently work for a competitor in industry in Houston. ExxonMobil has some of the sharpest most talented technical staff in the world, yet management systems that frustrate and dis-empower their most valuable assets - their people. Its sad to me reading this board because I know many of my ex-colleagues are going through some difficult times.
Former employee here — a google search about the 401k change lead me to the board and then I found myself reading cause I still have friends at the company.
Also — does anyone at XOM realize how insane the “zero tolerance” corporate card rule is? Other companies just take it out of your paycheck if it’s not approved, not a full blown audit and likely termination.
Hey! I'm from Amazon. I look at these forms to take notes on how to PIP employees. At Amazon, we are looking at getting rid of 10% annually.
@OP - I worked for EM for over 30 years. I'm now on the 3-month PIL, while trying to work out what to do next (I had always planned to work for the company until I was 65). I would imagine that there are only a few trolls (maybe still safely employed at EM) and a few journalists, coming to this site. I think the vast majority of posters here are genuine NSI'd former employees. Don't forget, most people just view and don't comment.
BP here also.. Ah! You found out I lurk these forms...
Chevron here..
I read. I am from the Wall Street Journal.
