Thread regarding Juniper Networks Inc. layoffs

Viewpoint of long term employees

I joined Juniper in 2018 and noticed that there are negligible stock refreshers. Can't help but notice a lot of tenured employees with 8-12 years or more at the company.

What's keeping you around? Does Juniper treat you well from a salary perspective?

Long timer here. No lack of offers, FAANG included. I like Juniper? Great WLB, great opportunities and continue to enjoy the ride. Issues at times for sure, lack of comp/bonus sometimes for sure, but overall the balance is good.

If by FAANG you mean google, then you should go for it. You will very likely get much better WLB with next to zero chance of pip. This comes at a cost of your future TC of course. But given juniper’s pay scale, G should at least double your TC for same or one level down. The other FAAN will get your more money but WLB is not so awesome.

I'm assuming you're not in CA. If you are then they would not know what your current comp is. Regardless, FANG are well known to low ball everyone unless you have competing offer or come from another FANG.

I’m in the same boat as the previous poster. I’m a top performer from top 5 engineering schools (both undergrad and grad). I also have an excellent track record with tier 1 companies. Juniper usually rewards the people they want to keep but treats everyone else poorly. Most are in the latter group hence all the complaints. Top performers get numerous RSU grants and bonuses throughout the year every year. I actually didn’t know this wasn’t standard practice until I started listening to complaints. Most tech companies offer a similar base. The RSU and bonus is what varies. For the people that Juniper values the refreshers and bonuses are very good. Not as good as FANG but better than many. I’ve had offers from multiple FANG companies for more total comp but when I considered the additional hours required it was a big step down in hourly wage. In short I choose to stay and it’s not because I lack options.

Just completed my 8 years in QA team. Both my kids were born after I joined Juniper. My WLB is unbeatable and I've attended every sports game that my kids have played. Off course this comes at the price of not earning a lot of money.

When I joined Juniper was the highest paying company in the country. That's why I joined too. My life situation and my priorities changed as I got older and money took a backseat to spending time with family. I very much like it here.

I wish folks who stay back do it because they want to be here. And not because they can't GTFO.

I was one of the long-term tenured employees. Got negligible refreshers, negligible salary bump, low bonuses. Why did I stick around for so long? Because I was incapable of getting a job outside of Juniper. If you are in software engineering, you should realize that the kind of work done in Juniper is obsolete which makes it very hard to market yourself for jobs outside.

I had to really get my act straight, studied for interviews for 6 months (3 hrs on weekdays + 6 hours on weekends). That is what it took for me to get a job outside of Juniper. Best decision of my life to get out of Juniper. Now, I have solid refreshers, very good bonuses, meaningful salary bumps. This is in addition to better quality work + work environment with much fewer politics (there will never be 0 politics anywhere). Just for reference, I did not get into any of the FAANGs. I am still incapable of cracking FAANG interviews even with this much preparation.

Very few people have the perseverance to study hard to get a job, so they have no choice but the stay miserable in Juniper. IMO, the longer you stick around the less valuable you become to employers outside.

They are not capable of leaving the company. Sticking in Juniper due to their contacts.
