Thread regarding Sears layoffs

KMART is a true discounter

Sick of the trolls that don't understand what a discounter is and that deny Kmart has lower prices than Walmart and Target. Kmart has better deals and pricing and they know it! It may not be the fanciest store, but it is the most inexpensive by a mile! They'll say "but but Walmart has this a d Target does this"... well that's got nothing to with being the lowest price. Why if only the other things matter do you say that Kmart isn't the lowest price. The trolls keep saying that Kmart isn't the cheapest and when it is shown to them that Kmart has the lowest price they pivot to another reason.

Kmart's Comeback Plan: Selling Bankrupt Companies' Stuff

By PHIL WAHBA February 18, 2016

In a bid to revive its long flagging sales, Kmart has unveiled a peculiar plan: selling stuff from companies that have gone out of business.

The retailer, which is a unit of Sears Holdings (SHLD, +1.56%), announced its plan this week, saying the strategy would help Kmart regain its luster.

“The path to making Kmart great again starts with sourcing truly brag-worthy deals,” said Kmart President Alasdair James, touting the move’s “extreme value proposition.”

Making Kmart great again will be quite a task. During the recent holiday season quarter, comparable sales at Kmart fell 7.2%. Years of sales declines have severely depleted its store fleet: Kmart is now down to 950 locations from 1,309 just five years ago. (Kmart hasn’t reported an annual increase in comparable sales since 2010.) It’s hard to believe that a quarter of a century ago, Kmart was bigger than Walmart (WMT, -0.16%).

Apparently, selling closeout items from bankrupt companies will do the trick. As an example, Kmart said it would soon offer those “truly brag-worthy deals” on outdoor cookers, smokers, outdoor lighting, and hand-held lighting made by Brinkmann, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in October. (Some may see an irony in this given the severe liquidity pressures on Sears Holdings, and the questions about its long term viability.)

But maybe Kmart is onto something. According to a recent survey by Prosper Insights & Analytics, Kmart is on par with Goodwill among women’s clothing shoppers. So maybe a turn to liquidated goods is right on time.

Doesn't matter if they were giving stuff away for free--- no one knows and no one shops here. If you dont advertise and you dont have customers it doesnt matter how cheap you merchandise is, no one can buy it. And if it isnt in stock then all you do is P*SS people off and they dont come back.

Inventory problems, local advertising for stuff that is not in stock nor has been in stock for months, no customer service ... it does not matter no one cares, no one shops at Kmart and as they close stores it makes it even harder to shop at a Kmart or Sears even if they wanted to. And to actually come in and shop at a Kmart just to wait in line for 30 minuets or more then be hassled about credit card sign up and then to have your coupon/SYW not work is not work the few cents I would save by shopping at Kmart.

In the rare instance Kmart is cheaper than Walmart, Target, Amazon, Dollar General, et.al., they are almost always out of stock on the very item(s) that undercut their competitors in price.

I've experienced this many times. Enough to give up completely on shopping at Kmart. Nothing frustrates me more than to be drawn to an enticing sale only to walk away empty handed because it was never in stock or available to ship. I'm not the only one that would feel that way, that's for sure.

FYI, if they keep advertising sales for items they don't actually have, that could get them in serious trouble with state consumer protection boards, especially if they are doing it intentionally. That is called bait and switch.

you know your quest is nearly impossible because Kmart carries specifically made for K mat sizes and styles , and they always cut corners and are bottom of the barrel

Polo shirts and cameras (if Kmart even sold Cameras) are categories. Post 10. specific items...same brand and size that you claim are available cheaper.

You can’t and you know it.

Kmart does not sell the cameras, they are a third party vendor, which means if something goes wrong then you cannot return it to a Kmart and Kmart does not deal with defective items. Same on Sears.com

1ohy-- Full of Sh**? Ha Ha Ha. You obviously can't use the Google machine in front of you. Just look online, pick an item and you can look for yourself. Or better yet, why don't you go to a Kmart and pick a few items and then go on over to Walmart or Target and compare.

Run down stores, no help and high prices are the very reason no on goes to Kmart anymore.

Why do you keep thinking that convincing an audience of mostly Sears/Kmart employees of this stuff would matter? Go find other places online and in person to preach your pro-Kmart messages instead, where they actually have a chance of convincing more customers to shop there. It's a waste of everyone's time here.

Toothpaste. 5.99 per tube at kmart. 2.89 at walmart. Milk-- 2% -- 1 gallon -- Walmart-- $2.29. Milk-- Kmart.com-- Garelick Farms -- .5 or 1/2 gallons-- 11.38 online third party seller or-- in store-- non-existent in most stores or $3.99 per gallon. Want me to go on? I have a whole spread sheet. I do price comparison and economic welfare for a living. Bring it on. Don't mess with the internet corporate troll.

I posted multiple items across multiple categories months ago and proved that Kmart shoppers can save huge percentages over Target and Walmart. I asked over and over for anyone to tell me an item sold at Kmart that is more expensive than Target Walmart. Nobody ever said anything.

Please post 10!links to the same item available at Kmart, Walmart, and Target where the Kmart price is best. Not ten “comparable” off brand items of dubious quality but 10 real brand items.
