Thread regarding Twitter layoffs

Opportunities in other companies

I made a mistake by not starting to look for a job immediately after Musk announced the offer. Now I'm starting to worry that I'll have to look for a new job while being jobless. For those who are already sending resumes - what are your experiences on the job market now?

Is Facebook still written in a version of PHP? Or was that Twitter that did that? (Even though they wrote a cross-compiler into C++ for it for speed.) Now there is a transferable skill...

I understand that ex-Oracle employees have a similar reputation.

I spent 2 years at twitter long ago and now have a little enterprise PaaS organization of about 40 employees, so I'm going to be honest with you: I would never hire someone with Twitter or Facebook on their resume. Ever.

Sorry if that sounds harsh, but to the average person outside of silicon valley, you are seen as a liability and I guarantee your team would resent you anyway. Even if you're one of the few good ones, I can't overstate how poorly Twitter and FB employees are viewed out here in the real world (though I'm sure you're probably getting a pretty good idea by reading the comments on this board).

Harder to get work-from-home positions than it was 1 or 2 years ago. On the bright side, some jobs only require coming into the office 1 or 2 days a week with the rest being at home.
