Both IT and Banking markets are in Layoff mode. Google, Apple, Microsoft and Facebook are planning to announce another rounds of layoff's around mid february and march.

So we must target middle level companies. A second tier bank should do good compared to Citi.

We have to follow 5 steps when searching for Job

  1. Keep applying
  2. Keep Learning technologies
  3. Keep Networking with people
  4. Polish your resume
  5. Have a good sleep

All the Best !!!

The d-mb thing to do is to put in for a job and stop, wait for a reply, wait for an interview, wait for the results of the interview etc…. this who process could take months. Meanwhile you let many other better positions come and go all because you waited months to hear a “no”.

The smart thing to do is to put in for a job, search and put in for another, rinse repeat.
If you get an interview, still search and put in for other jobs. You don’t want to let a better job slip through your fingers while you wait for a possible answer of yes or no. If you get an offer, still search and apply elsewhere. They may resend the offer or the posting may not be what you thought. You may get the position and a month or two in, its far worse than you thought. Still search and apply until you know for sure you want to stay there.

Another smart thing to do if you do get laid off, is to make searching for a job AS your full time job. Don’t just look at one job board for 30 min and call it a day. Still get up at the same time as you normally would as if you were working. Spend 8 hours per day looking, applying, researching other companies, sharpening your skills, networking. After 8 hours, call it a day. Do this everyday throughout the week. Make “searching for a job” AS “your job”.

I have been actively looking since the layoff was communicated. The positions have hundreds of applicants minutes after they are posted, if you are lucky you get an email that thanks you for applying and tells you how impressive you are, but unfortunately they have decided for another person, in most cases there’s no response or follow up, much less interviews.

I know people that have been looking for over a year and only have landed a handful of interviews that ended in the above type of emails.

Good luck to everyone!

IT job market has been in layoff mode for 2 yrs. I’ve been looking the past few meetings. There’s not much out there.

In Citi I was used to being ghosted, emails and follow ups being ignored, people not showing up for meetings, decisions pending indefinitely...
The job hunting market is the same.

Same. But I was only looking sporadically (so I told myself). Hope the interest rate will be lowerred and more cash will become available that will revive the job market in the 2nd half of the year.
