I only have a little bit left until retirement and that's why I'm still here. Otherwise I would have left already. When I look back on all these years behind me in this company, I still don’t understand how we degraded from a company where people could achieve self-actualization to a company where the only motive is the paycheck?

Like the head of Unilever who said that he’s going to ensure that every one of the company’s brands “stands for something”. Maybe we should set up the ASR9K product line to protect the polar bears rather than route customer traffic?
Got LR'd three years ago, took that good eight month chunk of change, and had a better paying job before my actual LR date.
What's wrong with this picture? Why in the heck does a company let go of a loyal, mid-level productive person; who then goes to a competitor, and then spend the next three years migrating probably 200+ customer networks to competitor gear?
I would have gladly stayed. I knew what I was doing. Cisco taught me my skills. Now I use those same skills to migrate customers off of Cisco gear.
We actually used to have cards displaying our values that we carried right next to our badges. They're long gone now.
Still have mine, attached to my badge.
I'm an old timer myself and saw the culture change over the years. We actually used to have cards displaying our values that we carried right next to our badges. They're long gone now. Chambers' obsession with fixing up the quarter's bottom line ruined everything. Layoffs made many realize we're just cannon fodder, so why sacrifice your life to an organization that doesn't have an ounce of loyalty? I've seen my fair share of fools proud to save $10 bucks on a dinner. Where are they now? Laid off with no medal. Do your job right, but don't waste your health or step over family time for a company that couldn't care less about you.
It happened between 2011 and 2016 when “decent place for your career” culture turned into “do more with less” culture and then “just be happy you kept your job, look at all these layoffs” culture…
It turned a lot of staff into a “why even bother stressing myself out , I’ll keep getting paid until they cut me” culture.
Here ONLY for that damn paycheck. #MeToo
Here ONLY for that damn paycheck. AND VERY PROUD OF IT.
Cisco aint a social club, it aint a temple or church, it aint a charity function. It is a damn JOB. OK!!!!???
I'm here for more than the paycheck, but yeah, if it wasn't for the paycheck the rest wouldn't matter one cent, I'd be long gone.
When I first joined Cisco, going above and beyond to do maintenance or software upgrades/deployments outside of business hours while still working a 40 hr week was OK. Because I could take time off for work/life balance later. Now, Cisco shows zero loyalty to employees, so my desire to go above and beyond are long gone. If I'm working outside of business hours, I'm coming in late that day or the next day to make up for that. I'm not answering questions while on PTO and I'm definitely leaving my laptop at home when I travel for PTO just so I CAN'T work.
I'll give Cisco a day's work for a day's pay, but at the end of the day, I'm not doing anything extra because Cisco has shown it's willingness to kick my a$$ to the curb w/ no damn notice as part of an LR.

Self actualization is achieved by working at Cisco?!!
I pray you find the guidance you so desperately need.
Everybody is working for a paycheck. Would you work for Google for free or for half of what you're making now?
The company is about to self destruct. So much infighting, lack of real objectives, and lack of real work. The paycheck is the only thing left.
Those who care about something or want to have self actualization are leaving in droves.
If you wouldn't work for free, you are too.
