Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

RSUs Follow The Money

Ever notice that when manage and leadership team holds an employee forum or similar they never talk about their RSU (restricted stock units) which they get rewarded for pumping everyone with the corporate BS. They need to dress up in matching cheerleading uniforms.

Not only do they avoid getting PIPed while there’s has been a 20-30% workforce reduction, they get rewarded with stock options while everyone else gets no pay increase or very little. And have the nerve to praise employees for all their sacrifices during these “difficult and unprecedented times.”

For all the younger and lower CL employees out there, has you supervisor ever hard a discussion with you on who gets RSUs and how it works…. for some.

Where is the shared sacrifice. True leadership is done at the front of the battle not in the rear reading text books and Harvard reviews on Leadership.

The other point is that the RSU program rewards the behaviors that have built up of our toxic culture. The company keeps trying to pivot to the future but have done nothing structurally to change the culture. Without significant culture change, the company will never be able to execute the strategy whatever the strategy is.

RSUs are about to have standard Income Tax applied at time of delivery (not cash-out).
That is why they won't talk about it.
Maybe DW could get up in congress and bawl his tiny heart out.

Them lucky ones going to be taxed Now!
and why not?

When I first joined the company I was in a Welcome to ExxonMobil training session. Someone asked about RSUs and HR spoke up and said "we don't discuss that". For some reason they think it needs to be secretive.

RSUs start at CL26, for top rankers. They are very slow to mature (half at 3 years, half at 7 years). The higher the CL and the higher the rank group the more RSUs you get. They are actually quite paltry until you hit CL 28-29 with a good ranking. CL30 probably has 50% of income coming in as RSUs...then just look at MC to see the top end of what RSUs can get you.

For most commoners RSUs have absolutely 0 factor in whether to stay with the company...because they aren't worth enough...especially when the stock price is down. Something like $10k in 3 years and another $10k in 7 years...that is nothing. Now if you get to the point where you are getting them every year...and getting more of them every year (e.g., CL28/29+)...then it can be a lot once they start rolling in. Could be $100k every year.

CL30+ are riding the gravy train....true golden handcuffs. They are completely unaffected by raises (or lack there of) to base salary. They are also the ones making decisions about salaries and dividends (which is where they line their own pockets at the expense of the pleebs).
