Thread regarding Microsoft Corp. layoffs

Vendors Release

Microsoft has already laid off two vendors on my spouses team saying because of covid 19. Hourly vendors taking heat for claiming 40 hours too. People still have bills. Still need to eat? Confused I thought Microsoft wasn’t going to fire people over this?

All vendor colleagues I know in marketing and business development were cut to part-time in FY21 and their contracts end Dec 2020. Expectations are they will NOT be renewed next calendar year. It really looks awful for a $1.5T market cap company as to how they treat and dismiss vendor personnel that has been critical in shaping and maintaining their success. Lots of wasted human capital and knowledge...

Increasing evidence of a widespread layoff coming in June at MSFT, apparently as many as 30,000 mainly US employees and contractors. Three different general managers in three very different parts of the business confirm that a “stealth” RIF is already underway. LinkedIn also reported to be heavily targeted.

Not just Vendors, there are FTEs too. I was told to take a hike yesterday after what amounted to a fabricated Connect. Met my Core Priorities too, so they're really stretching and grasping at straws to cut budget before FY21. Doing it this way also saves face with the press so they can say it wasn't COVID-related and wrongfully blames the ICs performance.

I'm telling my vendors to claim their 40 hours. No matter how little time they are spending in the office.

Microsoft let go of most of its vendors. I have teammates tied to Visas and they have families. Microsoft wants to look good in the press as still “paying” hourly employees but on the backside start letting go vendors. It is a shame that such a huge corporation (that can afford it) to let go people during this time
