Market Share Q3 2019: 5.4 percent
Lenovo generated $1.18 billion in server revenue during the third quarter to garner 5.4 percent of global market share, down from 6.1 percent share year over year. The Hong Kong-based company, with U.S. headquarters in Morrisville, N.C., saw server revenue decrease 17 percent compared with $1.43 billion in server revenue during the same quarter one year ago.
In terms of the number of servers sold, Lenovo sold a total of 204,040 units, up from the 193,121 units sold in third-quarter 2018. Lenovo servers made up 6.6 percent of the total amount of servers shipped worldwide in the third quarter, up from 6.1 percent year over year.
Although Lenovo’s PC sales grew in its most recent fiscal quarter, Lenovo’s Data Center Group—which includes storage and server infrastructure—continues to shrink, reporting its ninth consecutive year-over-year quarter of losses. In 2019, Lenovo doubled down on channel partners while also launching its data center Infrastructure as-a-Service offering, TruScale Infrastructure Services.
